Queensland cattle are primarily transported by road and rail to export ports on the eastern seaboard. Although these cattle may travel long distances to reach ports, Australia's animal welfare and ethics lead the world. Animal transport vehicles and handling facilities continually undergo changes to ensure the welfare of animals throughout all phases of the transport process.
Furthermore, the Queensland Government, together with research partners, continue to research scientific aspects related to animal welfare issues. These findings are used to modify and improve transport and handling equipment and enhance current animal husbandry practices, thus ensuring the continued welfare of stock.
