Cats and dogs

If you own a cat or dog, or work in the companion animal industry or for a local council, you may have responsibilities under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.

The Act is administered by Biosecurity Queensland and is part of the Queensland Government´s commitment to effective cat and dog control and ensuring public safety.

  • Local councils

    A number of resources are available to assist local councils with management of domestic cats and dogs

  • Microchip implanters

    Every person who implants cats and dogs with a microchip must be an authorised microchip implanter

  • Pet shops

    Pet shops, as suppliers of cats and dogs, must ensure that all cats and dogs they supply or trade in are microchipped

  • Pet owners
