Prizes

from years P-2’An excellent range of prizes are on offer to students who submit entries in the competition. Amongst the major prizes are $1,000 conference awards, $1,000 towards tertiary education materials, a 12 month subscription to a scientific journal valued at $500, a range of visa gift cards valued between $50 and $350, science/educational based equipment/books/kits/DVDs, gardening packs, scientific magazines, art packs, trophies, medallions and certificates.

All prizes are presented at the annual Awards Day and Agricultural Science Expo, which is held at the Hermitage Research Facility, Warwick. If you are unable to attend this event, prizes will be posted to your school. Prizes may differ from year to year.

Plant science project awards

Senior high school students (years 10-12)

Senior science awards

Awarded to students who submit the top 2 most outstanding entries.

Winner: $1,000 towards educational materials for tertiary education, a plaque and a certificate.

Runner up: $500 subscription to scientific journal, a plaque and a certificate.

Conference awards

If funding permits, we will offer 2 grants to the value of $1,000 each to 2 senior high school students (and an accompanying adult each), to assist with the costs in attending a science/agriculture conference within Australia.

Each grant may contribute towards conference registration fees, conference dinner, accommodation fees and travel costs.

Winning students may be asked to present their competition entry during the conference to an audience of researchers, agronomists, growers and industry representatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain confidence in presenting, communicating and networking, to discover various career paths and to expand their knowledge of science and agriculture.

To be eligible for this award, students must submit an excellent entry in the plant science project awards section of the competition, plus a separate conference award application (available via email).

Winners: Potentially up to $1,000 each towards costs to attend a conference and a framed certificate.

FEAST Scholarships

Future Experiences in Agriculture, Science and Technology (FEAST) is a five-day residential program to inspire high school students about rewarding science careers in the agriculture, animal, plant and food industries. FEAST is held at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus in July each year.
To be eligible for a FEAST scholarship, students must be in year 11 or 12 (the year they attend camp), submit a plant science project entry and a FEAST scholarship application form (available via email).

Winners: Scholarship valued at up to $450 to attend a 5 day FEAST camp at the University of Queensland Gatton campus and a certificate each.

International agricultural science awards

Awarded to the student who submits the most outstanding entry relating their experiment findings and research to global agricultural and food security issues.

Winner: $350 visa gift card, a medallion and a certificate.

Runner up: $150 visa gift card and a certificate.

Most outstanding poster awards

Awarded to students who submit the most outstanding poster entries.

Winner: $100 visa gift card, medallion and a certificate.

Highly commended (x2): $50 visa gift card and a certificate (each).

Junior high school students (years 7-9)

Junior science achievement awards

Awarded to students who submit the top 2 most outstanding entries.

Winner: Medallion, book prize and certificate.

Runner up: Book prize and a certificate.

Primary school students (years P-6)

Outstanding achievement awards

Awarded to students with the most outstanding entries from years P-2 and 3-6.

Winner: Medallion, a scientific/educational prize and a certificate (each).

Young science investigator award

Awarded to a student from years P-2 who demonstrates the most enthusiasm and curiosity towards science, as evident in their project entry.

Winner: Medallion, a scientific/educational prize and a certificate.

All year levels – Plant science project awards

Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd class awards

Awarded to class groups with the overall highest scores within each year category.

Prizes: Trophy and a scientific/educational prize for the class to share and individual certificates.

Highly commended medallions

Awarded to students with excellent, high scoring entries within each year category.

Prize: Medallions and certificates (each).

Encouragement award

May be awarded to a class, small team or individual with an entry demonstrating great effort and enthusiasm towards the project, but has not won a major award.

Prize: Science/educational based prize and certificates (each).

Participation certificates

Awarded to all participants who enter the Plant Science Project Awards but do not receive an above mentioned prize.

Art in AgRiculTure awards

Most outstanding school art awards

Awarded to the school/class group who submits the most outstanding artwork/collection of artwork overall.

Prize (winner and runner-up): Trophy and a class certificate (each).

Individual art awards

Awarded to students with the most outstanding artwork in each year level (P-12).

Winner prizes: Medallions, art/science packs and certificates (each).

Highly commended prizes: Art/science activity book/magazines and certificates (each).

Participation certificates

Awarded to all participants who enter the Art in AgRiculTure Awards but do not receive an above mentioned prize.
