There are a few significant endemic animal diseases in Queensland that are managed by accreditation, control or eradication programs.
Most other animal diseases that occur in Queensland are the responsibility of the animal owner to control, with the support of their private veterinarian.
Current eradication and control programs
- Caprine arthritis encephalitis
- Cattle tick
- Enzootic bovine leucosis (EBL)
- Johne's disease
- Newcastle disease
- Tick fever
Some endemic diseases are notifiable under legislation and if they are suspected or confirmed by laboratory testing, they must be reported to Biosecurity Queensland.
