Animal health surveillance

We monitor the health status of Queensland's animal populations through surveillance programs.

Current surveillance programs

  • Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE)

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies are not known to occur in Australia. If you suspect the presence of any of these diseases in animals, you must report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or contact the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline.

  • Tuberculosis

Bovine tuberculosis is a notifiable disease. Australia was officially declared free of the disease in 1997 after a 20-year eradication campaign.
