Tuberculosis is a notifiable disease.

Under Queensland legislation, if you suspect the presence of this disease in any species of animal, you must report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or contact the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Bovine tuberculosis

Tuberculosis in other animals

Whenever tuberculosis is sporadically found in Queensland, it is usually due to bacteria strains that are different to the one that causes bovine tuberculosis.

Typically, non-bovine tuberculosis is of avian (bird) origin; however, occasionally it spills over to other livestock, particularly pigs.

The detection of tuberculosis in any species is thoroughly investigated to ensure that it is not due to bovine tuberculosis and to minimise the risk of spread of disease to humans.
