Fisheries monitoring programs

We rely on, and are thankful for, the participation of commercial, recreational, charter and traditional fishers, and seafood wholesalers and processor who allow monitoring staff to measure fish and collect frames.

To get involved in any of our monitoring programs, email FisheriesMonitoring@daf.qld.gov.au or call 13 25 23.

We collect data from commercial, recreational, charter and traditional fishers, and seafood wholesalers/processors across the state to make sure we have fish for the future.

We combine biological monitoring information with commercial catch records and estimates of recreational catch to assess the sustainability of important Queensland fish species. Biological data is also used to assess the health of fish stocks, which guides harvest strategies and the management of our fisheries.
