  • similar to flagtail rockcod
  • saddle patch on the base of the tail
  • spot on the upper edge of the gill cover sometimes extends to form a blotch towards the eyes
  • spots cover lower jaw

  • highly regarded food fish
  • most have small scales
  • hard to see lateral lines and usually rounded to emarginate tail fins

  • minimum size 38 cm
  • combined possession limit of 5 for all cods and groupers
  • in addition, total possession limit of 20 for all Coral Reef Fin Fish
