Queensland Forest and Timber Industry Plan

The Queensland Government strongly supports initiatives to deliver a viable, profitable and sustainable Queensland timber and forest industry.

The industry plays a vital role in the state's economic, social and environmental wellbeing. It employs around 10,000 people and the forest and timber value chain contributes about $3.2 billion to Queensland's economy, especially in rural and regional communities.

The Queensland Forest and Timber Industry: an overview provides a snapshot of the Queensland industry. It highlights the state’s unique and diverse forests, and the broad range of timber products that are produced.

While the Queensland forest and timber industry is facing a number of challenges, it also has considerable potential to prosper and grow.  A situation analysis (PDF, 832.5KB) completed in August 2012 identifies many of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

The Queensland Government, along with industry, recognises the need to collaborate to develop practical strategies to enable the sector to reach its full potential.

The government has worked with industry to develop the Queensland Forest and Timber Industry Plan (the plan). The plan provides the foundation for a competitive forest and timber industry that continues to deliver benefits to Queensland over the next 30 years.
