Oat crops are the main winter forage in Queensland due to their ability to produce good quality feed when most pastures are dormant. Farmers rely on oats for livestock fattening during their finishing period from winter to early spring. Over 250,000 hectares of oats are grown annually in Queensland. The crops benefit to the grazing industry has been estimated at over $100 million.
