Overview of the Site
The Cairns District office operates as a Research Facility with Agri-science groups including Food Technology, Horticulture and Forest Science, Regional Services and Biosecurity.
Post-harvest and market access treatment and disinfestation studies principally for interstate and international market access. Range of insect studies including control, population dynamics, life cycle studies of introduced and native species.
The site has a number of Biosecurity staff working in community engagement and “control” of introduced exotic pest species such as yellow crazy ants. Staff numbers in these areas fluctuates depending on Biosecurity projects.
The site has built facilities include an administration office with accommodation for approximately 80 staff, conference and meeting rooms.
