Wood properties and uses of Australian timbers

These pages describe wood properties and uses for Australian and some imported timbers that, traditionally, have been used in the sawn wood and veneer markets. Many cabinetwoods are now rarely available, while key eucalypt hardwoods, white cypress, plantation softwoods and most imported timbers are still available.

This information has been compiled over 80 years through research and industry relationships. It provides technical data to help builders, designers and engineers choose which timber to use. They can also enable growers and processors to optimise use of the timber resource.

Search by trade name. Timber trade names are grouped by tree type (e.g. all the stringybarks are listed under 's' and all the gums are listed under 'g').
