Biological collections

Our biological collections help to maintain Queensland's biosecurity by making it possible to accurately identify plant diseases and pests. Early detection and identification help to protect our crop industries, which are worth approximately $3.5 billion annually.

In this way, the collections support Biosecurity Queensland’s plant biosecurity program, which coordinates the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ efforts to prevent and respond to pests and diseases that threaten the economy and environment.

Loans

Specimens from the Plant Pathology Herbarium and Insect Collection are available for loan. Loans are encouraged to provide broad taxon coverage for research and diagnostics.

In general, loans will be available to institutions/organisations rather than to individuals.
