Biosecurity regulation

The Biosecurity Regulation 2016 (PDF, 1.5MB) underpins the Biosecurity Act 2014 (the Act).

The regulations prescribe ways in which a person's general biosecurity obligation can be met to prevent or minimise a biosecurity risk, and includes measures to prevent or control the spread of biosecurity matter, sets maximum acceptable levels of contaminants in carriers, and sets fees.

The regulations were developed through public consultation, and engagement with affect industries.

A Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) was developed for the public consultation through extensive engagement with peak industry bodies, production industries, natural resource management groups and local government during its development.

More than 600 responses were received from producers, hobbyists, animal owners and industry organisations about the RIS. This feedback ensured a wide range of perspectives informed the regulations.
