The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF)’s Food Innovation team is opening the doors to its Health and Food Sciences Precinct in Coopers Plains as part of the World Science Festival’s Labs Unlocked series.

The tour on Thursday, 21 March will welcome up to 40 attendees to explore the fascinating realm of food science and innovation and gain first-hand insights into the cutting-edge research and technologies shaping the future of food.

Attendees will enjoy a morning tea showcasing FigJam & Co’s condiments, with a unique opportunity to sample products developed in collaboration with the DAF Food Innovation team.

The Labs Unlocked series is a new addition to the World Science Festival this year, serving as a platform to spotlight the breadth and diversity of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) innovation.

DAF senior food technologist Kerridyn Hooker said she was excited to see visitors get the opportunity to come face to face with cutting-edge food science.

“Labs Unlocked is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the groundbreaking science and technology behind food innovation,” Ms Hooker said.

“It is events like Labs Unlocked that can foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for STEM."

The Labs Unlocked series highlights the breadth and diversity of STEM innovation underpinning our daily lives and celebrates Brisbane’s growing expertise in the global knowledge economy.
