How to search the collections

There are 3 ways to search.

The database will search for this term in the Summary data field (which includes Accession Number, Genus and Species).

Summary results are displayed in a table, showing the unique accession number, the name of the organism, the host it was collected from, the locality where the collection took place, the name of the collector(s) and date collected.

To view further details for an individual record, you can either:

    • click on the accession number for the record
    • change the view from List to Details.

Changing the view from List to Details will load the record at the top of the list. The Previous page and Next page links can be used to move between pages of Summary results or Detailed results.

  • Plant Pathology Herbarium (advanced search)

This advanced search option allows you to retrieve records of plant pathogens held in the Plant Pathology Herbarium only. You can:

    • search for particular accession numbers (the prefix BRIP is not required to perform a search)
    • query specific fields not included in the basic search (i.e. host, collector, date, locality and living culture availability).

In the example below, a search for the terms 'Botrytis' and 'cinerea' in the Genus and Species fields, combined with 'Strawberry' in the Host common name field and 'Yes' in the Living culture field retrieved 2 records from the Plant Pathology Herbarium.

  • Insect Collection (advanced search)

This advanced search option allows you to retrieve records of insect pests held in the Insect Collection only.

    You can:

    • search for particular accession numbers (the prefix QDPC is not required to perform a search)
    • query specific fields not included in the basic search (i.e., higher classification [phylum, class, order and family], host, collector, date and locality).

In the example below, a search for the terms 'Bactrocera' in the Genus field, combined with 'Mango' in the Host common name field, and 'Cairns' in the Locality field retrieved 68 records from the Insect Collection
