Horse event guidelines on running, registering and participating

Event organisers and participants must follow good biosecurity guidelines to minimise the risk of spreading infectious diseases and pests.

This includes continuing to:

  • collect information on all horses attending events
  • maintain strict biosecurity at events
  • not allow sick horses to attend events.

If you suspect any horse may have a notifiable disease, immediately call a veterinarian or the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

For general biosecurity guidelines for organisers and participants of horse events, see Healthy horses at events.

Learn more about reducing the risk of disease at your horse event

A vital but often overlooked aspect of being an equestrian event organiser is ensuring that an environment prevents the entry and spread of infectious disease and pests to competitors' horses.

Biosecurity Queensland regularly conducts free workshops about reducing the risk of disease at your horse event.

The workshops focus on biosecurity planning for horse events, including venue maps, biosecurity rules, record keeping, isolation areas, moving horses across the tick line, horse health declarations and property registration.

Upcoming workshops are added here as they become available. Please check back for sessions in your area.

If you are interested in hosting a workshop for your horse organisation, please contact the Customer Service Centre on 13 25 23.
