Fisheries compliance

Fisheries compliance is a key element in maintaining sustainable fisheries. Fisheries resources and fish habitats are highly valued by the community in Queensland, so it’s important they are managed sustainably for the future.

The department administers the Fisheries Act 1994, which governs the use of Queensland's fisheries resources and protection of fisheries habitats, and sets out the department's responsibilities for the ecologically sustainable development of our fisheries.

We develop and apply principles and procedures to ensure that fisheries legislation is enforced in a manner that is fair, transparent, consistent and achieves an optimal level of compliance. Managing compliance in Queensland's fisheries (PDF, 1.3MB) outlines how we achieve optimal compliance.
