Status of Queensland fish stocks

Stock status assessments help guide fisheries management and research. We assess the stock status of important Queensland fish species using the nationally agreed Status of Australian Fish Stocks classification framework – an expert panel then determines the status of each stock.

The majority of Queensland key species are assessed every second year, while some species are reviewed every year due to sustainability concerns.

A single stock or multiple stocks of a species may be found wholly within Queensland, while others may extend outside Queensland waters. We only assess the Queensland component of these fish stocks.
