What's special

Fairbairn Dam is stocked by the Emerald Fish Stocking Group Inc. The dam is stocked with barramundi and golden perch. In 2017/18, 9,000 barramundi, 39,500 golden perch and 7,150 silver perch were stocked from SIPS permit sales. A total of 252,514 barramundi, 489,412 golden perch and 7,150 silver perch have been stocked in Fairbairn Dam from SIPS since the group joined the scheme in 2009.

Location

Fairbairn is located in Central Queensland, 19km south west of Emerald or 60km north of Springsure. There are no vessel restrictions on the dam. All watersports are permitted. Public facilities available include a good boat ramp, toilets, covered picnic tables and barbeques. Camping is available at the nearby Lake Maraboon Holiday Park. They offer cabins, powered and unpowered sites. By far the most popular target here is the redclaw crayfish. At any given time there are folks here from far and wide just to go crayfishing; very few are disappointed. Please remember that these are non-indigenous to the dam and should not be released.
