Storm King Dam is stocked by the Stanthorpe Blue Water Fishing and Restocking Club Inc. The dam is stocked with golden perch, Murray cod and silver perch. In 2017/18, 13,190 golden perch, 1,885 Murray cod and 1,000 silver perch were stocked from SIPS permit sales. A total of 147,966 golden perch, 21,998 Murray cod and 46,534 silver perch have been stocked in Storm King Dam from SIPS.
Location
Storm King Dam is located 5km south-east of Stanthorpe. The dam is a popular location for fishing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and rowing. There are no restrictions on the vessel types that can be used on the dam, however a boating permit is required. Boating permits can be obtained from the Southern Downs Regional Council. Canoes can be hired from the Sommerville Valley Tourist Park. Accommodation is available at the Sommerville Valley Tourist Park. The park offers self-contained apartments, cabins and powered camping sites. The facilities at the dam include toilets, showers, barbeques, playground, kiosk for supplies and disabled facilities. There is a designated swimming area at the dam. There are plenty of other activities to do in the region including bushwalking, mountain bike riding, berry farms and wineries.
